A new book out by Jackie Battenfield entitled The Artist's Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love is a comprehensive handbook that provides the information, tools, and techniques, for developing and sustaining a successful art career. The Studio's exhibition entitled Connections: An Artist's Viewpoint may be seen by appointment at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. One of the artist's exhibiting is Joyce Wenglowski. Her work (as seen in the second picture on this home page) is entitled "In the Garden of the Sleeping Giant." This 60" x 48" acrylic on canvas is an abstract reference from a botanical garden in Fiji. The Studio's offsite exhibitions are for the cultural enrichment of the Westchester community. Exhibitions and events showcase the work of various Westchester artists and artists from the region, from the emerging to the mid-career to the established. The curated off-site exhibitions include a variety of mediums, from painting and photography to video, sound, performance art and sculpture. Currently, we have a traveling exhibit that focuses on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and through the Green Rickshaw examines what is happening in the building of green communities today, entitled BroadAcre/Usonia: The Ideal Community and the Ideal Suburban Home. We have provided an online version of the catalog for BroadAcre/Usonia. On June 13, 2009, Cathrin Hoskinson installed a large-scale aluminum sculpture entitled "Tree and Sky." The piece is made of cut and painted aluminum and was recently exhibited in the 22nd Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Cathrin states, "I think of the sculpture as a poem. The overlay of metaphors becomes an idea of the self in its surroundings." Press Release More work by Cathrin Hoskinson may be viewed on her webpage Exhibitions at The Studio are periodically reviewed in The New York Times. Our exhibit, Frank Lloyd Wright and Usonia: An Experiment in Living was featured in the New York Times article, 1940s Communal Living in a Wright-Planned Utopia by Benjamin Genocchio. To read the entire article on the Web please visit The New York Times. The detail of a photo of Frank Lloyd Wright examining a drawing with Roland Reisley is by Pedro E. Guerrero. For your convenience we've provided a list of previous shows that have been reviewed, to view the list, simply go to the New York Times Reviews page under the tab About Us on our home page.
