Artist Statement

I create art in order to challenge myself and my audience. I challenge myself by constantly exploring new media and new styles. I challenge my audience by posing questions about the nature of art and the peculiar behavior of human beings.

In addition to pursuing my own, individual work, I frequently collaborate with other artists, in a variety of disciplines. I am a member of EYE, an eight-person visual art group that presents live, improvisational painting and collage performances. Each performance results in a large mural or sculptural environment. I am one of three women in The Cathouse Associates, a team that creates collaborative works on a paper. My interest in writing has led me to WORD OF MOUTH – nine writers interested in spoken-word performances. I also participate in a weekly poetry exchange with three other local writers. My career in video art has been shaped by my frequent collaborations with Gene Panczenko. Finally, I have recently teamed up with a group of seven musicians to create my very first music video, based upon a song that I wrote last year. (See “NEWS” below.)

I also pursue work as an art historian. This spring, I will be giving a series of three lectures, Love and War in Western Art, at the Katonah Museum of Art. Additionally, I will be lecturing at The West Nyack Library, JCC on the Hudson , and other local venues.

News Release

My conceptual piece, Stories about Strangers , will be included in THE FAAN SHOW at Pocket Utopia in Brooklyn during the month of January.

I will participate in a poetry reading on January 19 th at Rutheny’s Brook Street Gallery in Croton on Hudson.

My first music video, The Selfish Song , will be on view in February at the Fisher Studio Arts Building at Bard College in Annandale on Hudson.

I am working on a one-woman, eight-hour performance pieced entitled Marcy and the Pink Podium. (Time and place to be announced.)
