Other work by Elaine Galen may be viewed by going to her web site at www.elainegalen.com.

In recent years my painting concerns continue to refer to the American landscape as well as the painting process. The landscape is threatened by environmental conditions and the painting process is often dismissed. I believe both need to be preserved.

My images evolve from abstract expressionist considerations and a view of nature as capable of evoking emotion and feeling. Both can symbolize the spiritual and arouse the mystical. As a painter, I try to inspire this range. The land and its many confluences of space and texture become a source for interpretation.                                        Elaine Galen

"...Elaine Galen sets her sights on Metro North's bridge over Main Street, where she would paint a multifaceted mural of an elegant garden scene that would evoke an air of intimacy and comfort in an otherwise cold and congested corner of the city..."               D. Dominick Lombardi

                                                           The New York Times

"Elaine Galen's gestural abstract landscapes are rich in texture, color nuances and discoveries. While keyed to nature, they are not literal representations. Rather, her powerful paintings border on the visionary and surreal."                                                Lucinda H. Gedeon, Director
