I have been making abstract paintings for many years. My painting has evolved over the years and has changed in form, materials and size. One element however which has remained constant, is my need to create works in series. Usually in groups of at least three or four, occasionally more. My recent series are departures from the bulk of my past work, in that they are smaller in size, and painted on panel rather than canvas. The titles in these series, as with all of my titles, are not of specific importance. Titles are for me a way of dealing with certain ideas or emotions which have helped shape the work, and often are abbreviations which refer to places, names or dates. In my paintings, movement, in it's most subtle form of vibration, shapes the work. Layering of color, mark or line in some cases obscures, and in some emphasizes the original intent. The viewer is engaged optically, and hopefully then, these vibrations may create a deeper resonance. “They assume formations as if in response to air currents so that the effect is of atmosphere made tangible”—Vivian Raynor, New York Times
