Artist Statement

My work is a personal attempt to understand and articulate the richness and complexity of the universe, an exploration of the relationship between the physical and conceptual, instantiating ideas and ideals in physical or virtual objects.

My works in all media exploit ideas and forms from science and mathematics. I have repeatedly used these to explore the representation of landscape in steel, stone and video, whether portraying land forms themselves, landscape features (such as waymarking cairns) or as cartographic representations. Personal identity is another theme to which I am constantly drawn, explored through electronic art based on biometrics (face, fingerprint and speech).

I use computers in art for the unlimited creative scope that they enable- in visual, sound and interactive installation pieces- but also delight in the physical creation of sculpture unconstrained by medium boundaries and the power of photography.
