Nils Hill: Selected Works 1999-2006

The Studio Annex is pleased to present Selected Works, a solo exhibition that features the paintings of Nils Hill. Mr. Hill has been making paintings for almost thirty years, during which his work has evolved and changed in form, materials and size. This exhibit focuses on work from the last seven years.

Comprised of multiple layers of acrylic paint on canvas, and most recently on board, Mr. Hill’s paintings achieve great luminosity and depth. Seemingly monochromatic at first glance, upon closer inspection they reveal a larger palette. As the viewer may observe in White Road I, it is movement in the subtle form of vibration, which shapes this work. The layering of color, marks, and in some cases line, may obscure or emphasize the original intent. The viewer is engaged optically, and may then sense a deeper resonance.

Mr. Hill was born in New York in 1949, and holds a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and a MFA from Indiana University. His work has been seen in numerous group shows in the metropolitan area and throughout the northeast, as well as several solo exhibitions. He has since 2004 been included in Who’s Who in America.

The public is invited to visit The Studio Annex on Monday through Friday, 10am to 3pm.
