Gordon, Francesca Samsel (at Copperhead Press), Tedd Stratis, and Joyce Wenglowski. The Studio Sculpture Garden exhibition entitled “Contemporary Selections: Abstract and Figurative Sculpture” includes: Emil Alzamora, Jo-Ann Brody, Harry H. Gordon, Sarah Haviland, Cathrin Hoskinson, Drew Klotz, Krish, Susan Manspeizer, Chris Meyers, J. Pindyck Miller, and Michael Poast. The Studio Sculpture garden is located in a suburban setting with an intimate garden surrounded by perennial borders interspersed with contemporary abstract and figurative sculpture. The word abstraction implies, for some, a disconnect from the catalogue of accepted ideas and recognizable objects. For the artist, however, abstraction is a way to respond to everyday experience and to the visible world, reflecting these encounters and more fully giving meaning to them. Whether it is abstract or figurative, each sculptor sets the parameters for their work; each determines the issues of perception and interpretation before them. The finished sculpture is the answer. ( a catalog is available) A group show featuring sculpture, video art and works on paper will be held at The Copperhead Press , located on seven acres at 1479 Maiden Lane , Yorktown . This site is a short drive from the Taconic Parkway and Rt. 129, in the Hunterbrook area (between Yorktown and Croton-on-Hudson). The property includes Francesca Samsel 's custom-built home and her 1200 square-foot studio. The beautiful wooded grounds, perched above the Croton reservoir, will be used for the display of outdoor sculpture. The spacious, light-filled studio will accommodate works on paper and video art. Freedman, Sarah Haviland , John Maggiotto, Neil Ira Needleman, Bohdan Osyczka, J. Pindyck Miller, Andrew Senior, Sergio Gonzalez-Tornero, and Francesca Samsel.
